Possible Side Effects of a Great Workplace

Possible Side Effects of a Great Workplace

In our society, people are willing to assume certain risks in order to achieve results.  Just think about that little blue pill for men.  You cannot watch television for ten minutes before a commercial airs illustrating the amazing romantic results of this incredible, tiny pill.  However, have you ever noticed those wild disclaimers at the end of their commercials? It’s almost ridiculous, isn’t it?

According to the tiny blue pill’s website, the most common side effects of this prescription are headache, facial flushing and upset stomach.  Less common side effects are bluish vision, blurred vision, or sensitivity to light.  In rare instances a sudden decrease or loss of vision or hearing. If this happens men are encouraged to call the doctor right away.

Are you kidding me? Men are willing to risk bluish vision? Does that mean everything looks blue when you are driving down the highway to find your doctor?  Would you see the difference between a red or green light? Even further, some men may experience a complete loss of vision!

Here’s my point: Men will accept great risks to obtain a specific result.

In our workplaces, leaders should be willing to assume certain risks to achieve results.  While on the road to creating a great workplace where everyone benefits (i.e., employees, customers, owners, shareholders, community and society), leaders need to be willing to allow for a few side effects during the process to achieve a tremendously worthwhile goal.

Possible side effects of building a great workplace include headache, facial flushing and upset stomach due to confronting leaders and employees who are not willing to live by the positive values of the organization.  Less common side effects are blurry or loss of vision. In fact, organizational leaders and their employees will begin to possess a clearer sense of vision, given enough time working on the transformative process of building a great workplace.

I realize the comparison between the little blue pill and a great workplace is a bit strange. Sometimes you have to take a risk when working on an extremely worthwhile goal; positively transforming business culture.
