When I was a teenager my parents told me to be careful about the crowd I hung around with. Positive friends make good friends and improve your quality of life. Negative friends have the opposite effect and can get you into trouble. Remember the old expression, “you are who you hang around with.”
When I was on my high school tennis team, our coach taught us to play someone better than us. This allowed us to improve our game.
The same principle applies to the organizations where we work. A positive company culture is going to help make you a better person, improve your outlook on life, help you to be more productive and allow your personal life to be much more enjoyable. On the other hand, if you accept a position in a toxic company culture, your life will not be as fulfilling, even if you are working in your dream job. I have known people who have accepted positions not related to their areas of expertise just to work in a positive company culture.
If you are working in a positive company culture, you are very fortunate. If not, you need to find another place to live from 9 to 5.
