It has been my experience the longer I work for a company the less control I have of my personal life. I spent twelve years at one company and now I look back and wonder how my children grew up so fast. Where did the time go? What did we do to have fun in our spare time? Looking at pictures during those days it is hard to remember I was actually there – but I was there. However, my mind was probably at the office worrying about a management contrived trivial issue. Corporate pressure to work late and on Saturdays also caused me to miss out on many activities with my three beautiful daughters and wife.
If you are working in a corporate position or even in a small business, don’t allow your job to take you away mentally or physically from your family. Your family deserves to have you – all of you – at home when it is time to be home. It would be better to find a way to change your physical and mental work habits or change jobs or companies than to lose out on precious memories you will never get back.
