Have you ever seen evil? I have, and it works in the recruiting department. Really, I think the devil would love to be a recruiter for a company filled with bossholes.
How can a recruiter possess integrity when they recruit for a hiring manager who has constant turnover? How can a professional recruiter offer a position that experiences turnover every six to nine months?
Evil [definition] — something that brings sorrow, distress, or calamity (Merriam-Webster)
The following incident made a much needed impression on our human resource department. One of our team members had hired the most recent victim for the company’s public relations director, a certified bosshole. It was like throwing bait into shark-infested waters. The new employee was very qualified with a pleasant personality.
A few weeks after her hiring, the new employee went missing for several hours one day. Thankfully, she was found on the side of a busy highway in her car. It was not car trouble. She was having a nervous breakdown. Her mental and physical health could not endure one more second of abuse from the bosshole in charge.
At that point, we had to take a stand. No more hiring for this department! The CEO was not going to fire her but wanted to limit her contact with people. Meanwhile, our company’s public relations area limped along because leadership tolerated bad managers who did not respect the basic rights of human dignity.
Have you seen evil in your company? What are you going to do about it?
